Help & How It Works

Everything you can do on MindMyBelief.

One quiet place to read scripture across many traditions, understand it gently, and find your community. This guide walks through every part of the site and how to use it.

01 — Getting started

Choosing your tradition

The first time you open the reader, a gentle prompt asks which tradition you'd like to read in. Your choice personalizes the site — the scripture shown, the default translation, the wording of topics, and the Daily Verse — but it never locks you in.

MindMyBelief covers nine traditions:

ChristianityCatholicismIslamJudaismHinduismBuddhismSikhismStoic & philosophicalSecular mindfulness
  • Pick a tradition on the first-run prompt, or tap “Maybe later” to browse without choosing.
  • Change it anytime with the Tradition selector in the reader's header — nothing you've saved is lost.
  • You're always free to read a tradition that isn't your own; exploring others is encouraged, not discouraged.
Tip: Your tradition is a starting point, not a wall. Switching it simply changes which texts and translations load by default.
02 — The Home page

Start from how you feel

The home page is built around a simple question: “What are you feeling today?” Instead of needing to know a reference, you begin from an emotion and let the scripture find you.

  • Emotion-guided discovery: choose a feeling — grief, gratitude, fear, hope and more — and MindMyBelief surfaces verses that speak to it.
  • “Seeking Truth about…” topics: a menu of life themes (love, forgiveness, patience, purpose, and so on) that opens the reader focused on that topic.
  • Shared Wisdom cards: cross-tradition cards that place passages from different scriptures side by side, showing how often they echo one another.
Tip: The Shared Wisdom cards are a lovely way to see the “different doors, shared light” idea in action — the same human longing spoken in many voices.
03 — Reading & searching

Finding a verse in the reader

The reader at /read is the heart of the app. You can reach any passage three different ways, whichever fits how you're thinking.

  • By reference: type an exact citation like John 3:16 and jump straight to it.
  • By keyword: search a word or phrase (e.g. light, mercy) to find where it appears.
  • By feeling: describe what you're carrying in plain language, and the reader finds verses that meet it.
  • Browse by Chapter: open a book and move chapter by chapter when you'd rather read in order.
  • “Seeking Truth about…”: the topic menu is here too, to explore a theme within your tradition.

Switching translation & tradition

Header controls let you change your Tradition and, where more than one exists, the translation. Each verse also carries actions — explain it, listen to it, react, note, highlight, favourite, or see similar verses (covered in the next sections).

04 — Understanding the text

Three ways to have a verse explained

Tap Explain on any verse and choose the depth that suits you. Explanations are written to illuminate the passage within its own tradition — to help you understand it, never to convert you.

  • Standard — a gentle, plain-language reading of what the verse is saying.
  • Deep Study — fuller context: background, meaning, and how the passage has been understood.
  • Kids — a simple, friendly explanation suitable for children.

Switch modes right from the verse's action bar — the same passage, explained at a different depth. On mobile these live in the sticky bar at the bottom of the screen (Explain · Kids · Deep · Read Aloud · Similar).

Respectful by design: explanations stay inside the chosen tradition's own frame of meaning, so reading a text always feels faithful to it.
05 — Listen

Read Aloud

Prefer to hear scripture? Every verse can be spoken aloud with text-to-speech.

  • Tap Read Aloud on a verse (in the action bar, or the sticky bar on mobile) to have it read to you.
  • Tap again to stop. It's ideal for reflection, accessibility, or reading with your eyes closed.
06 — Saving & personal tools

Make a verse your own

MindMyBelief keeps a set of quiet, personal tools on each verse so your reading builds over time.

  • Notes: write a private note on a verse; a counter in the header shows how many you've kept, and a panel lets you jump back to any of them.
  • Highlights: mark a verse so it stands out when you return.
  • Favourites: save verses you want to keep close.
  • Reactions: respond to a verse with a quick reaction.
  • History: your recently read verses are remembered so you can retrace your path.
Tip: Your notes are private to you. Sign in so your notes, highlights, favourites and history follow you across devices.
07 — Community

Community “Takes”

Beyond your private notes, you can share a short public reflection — a Take — on a verse, and read what others have offered.

  • Open a verse and add your Take: a brief, thoughtful reflection others can see.
  • Read fellow readers' Takes to gather perspectives beyond your own.
Kept respectful: Takes are moderated. This is a space for reflection and understanding, not debate — keep it kind.
08 — Daily Verse

A fresh verse each day

The /daily page offers one verse for today, chosen for your tradition and a topic you pick, with a short line to carry into your day.

  • Choose your faith and a category (topic) at the top of the page.
  • Read today's verse and its reference; tap Explain this → to open it in the reader.
  • Come back tomorrow for a new one — it refreshes daily.
09 — Compare

Compare translations & the Interfaith Bridge

The /compare page has two tabs for reading with fresh eyes.

Tab 1 — Compare translations

Read the same passage in two renderings side by side. This is offered where a tradition has more than one meaningful version to hold together:

  • Bible — World English Bible ↔ King James Version
  • Qur'an — Arabic ↔ English
  • Sikh scripture — Gurmukhi ↔ Transliteration

Seeing two columns together makes the shape of the original — its cadence, its word choices — much easier to feel.

Tab 2 — Interfaith Bridge

Pick one theme and see how it is spoken across every tradition at once — a single idea reflected through the Bible, the Qur'an, the Tanakh, the Bhagavad Gita, the Dhammapada, the Guru Granth Sahib, the Meditations, the Tao Te Ching and more. Each passage links through to Deep Study in the reader when you want to go further.
